Growing up in Berlin and Brandenburg, he graduated from high school in Wandlitz in 2001. He then began his studies in sociology and political science. While still at school, Oetker worked as a journalist for "Berliner Zeitung" and RTL Television. From 2008 to 2011, he was France correspondent for RTL and n-tv in Paris. From 2012-2020 he was a political correspondent in Berlin, and since 2021 he has been working again as a France expert for Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. In 2017, his first crime novel "Retour," about Commissaire Luc Verlain in Bordeaux, was published and immediately hit the bestseller list. Since then, he has published around 20 successful books with major trade publishers (Hoffmann & Campe, Piper, Droemer Knaur, Kampa). His 2021 debut novel, "Wednesdays by the Sea," is one of the most successful books of the year. As a regular columnist for Germany's leading gourmet magazine DER FEINSCHMECKER, Oetker writes about culinary developments in Europe.
